Feeling a Little Lighter Today…

“I feel a little strange today…a little lighter…like something is missing…”

“Oh, yeah! I had my surgeries yesterday! I’m officially a Tripawd! And boy, is Mom proud because I did AWESOME!”

Yesterday was Eve’s big day! The one we’ve been counting down to and that I (Mom) have been dreading.  We’ve officially had our baby girl a month yesterday and we celebrated by having her amputation surgery! (I felt terrible!) Our month together pre-surgery was fantastic! We did lots of traveling and playing. She got to spend lots of time with her fur-cousin, Cooper!

It was a good month. Until I woke up yesterday with a lump in my throat, wishing it wasn’t surgery day. I just wanted to stay in bed and snuggle with her and make her foot magically better. Unfortunately, 6:00 came too quickly and it was go time. After they took her back, I was nothing but nerves for the rest of the day. I’m pretty sure there’s a trench in our floor from all of my pacing!  At 3:00 we got the call that Eve was out of surgery and doing great! I was SO relieved! We called and checked on her a few hours later and she was still doing well, making friends with all of the nurses!

We got a call at 7:00 this morning saying that she was ready to come home, so off we went (after we got coffee into us)! The wait in the lobby felt like forever, but once we got to go back and Eve got brought out to us, every second of waiting and worrying was totally worth it! She hopped in, tail wagging, kisses all over our faces as soon as we knelt down with her. There is nothing quite like the love of a dog!

She was so happy to get home and lay down in her bed that is about 3 times too big for her! The rest of her day was spent contently sleeping near the heater.  It’s been a long few days, but worth every second of worry and sleeplessness knowing that she’s not going to have to live with that painful foot any longer.  I can’t imagine our lives without her anymore!

I’m so, so grateful to this community of wonderful people for talking me through the entire process and helping me maintain an acceptable level of crazy.  You are all so wonderful<3
